Curtis McDowell is a licensed Professional Engineer and a 1998 graduate of the Mechanical Engineering program at North Carolina State University. Curtis has twenty six years of experience in various aspects of the rail industry including rail vehicle engineering, mechanical maintenance, track inspection, and operations. Currently he serves as the Chief Mechanical Engineer at North Carolina Department of Transportation Rail Division providing mechanical engineering support on rail equipment projects and works closely with the NCDOT contract maintenance provider to provide technical and engineering support for the current Piedmont equipment pool. 

 

Curtis has worked with Downer EDi Australia in their Sydney offices providing support to the freight locomotive design group on the GT46ACe locomotives and also at the Kooragang Maintenance Facility with the maintenance engineering team on the Pacific National locomotive fleet. He also worked as a Trainmaster and a mechanical and equipment inspector with the American Orient Express/Grandluxe Rail luxury passenger train on routes throughout the western United States. Additionally, he worked with ENSCO on their track geometry measurement trains throughout the United States.
